A tragic crash south of Turlock on Sunday morning claimed the lives of four individuals, including three members of the same family. The victims were identified on Monday by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
Daniel Lourenco, 44, his wife Jennifer Lourenco, 45, and their 16-year-old daughter, Madelynn Lourenco, all residents of Turlock, were among those killed. The fourth victim was identified as 22-year-old Uriel Guizar Negrete, the driver of a 2008 Infiniti sedan that collided with the Lourenco family’s Jeep SUV.
Jennifer Lourenco, a dedicated education specialist at Sinclear Elementary School, was remembered by the Ceres Unified School District. “While we are still processing this unimaginable tragedy, our hearts go out to members of the Lourenco family and their loved ones,” the district said in a statement. Jennifer, named Sinclear’s Teacher of the Year for 2023-24, was praised as a talented and compassionate educator whose loss will deeply impact the school community. Counseling services have been made available to students and staff across the district.
Pitman High School, part of the Turlock Unified School District, also issued a statement, acknowledging the devastating loss of a family within their community. The school is providing counselors and chaplains to support students, staff, and faculty throughout the week. “Our hearts go out to this family and their loved ones during this very difficult time,” the statement read.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred just before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 165 and Greenway Avenue. The Infiniti, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the Lourenco family’s Jeep as it entered the intersection from a stop sign on Greenway Avenue.
Daniel and Jennifer Lourenco were pronounced dead at the scene, as was Negrete, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Madelynn Lourenco was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Two additional passengers in the Jeep, a 19-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, both from Turlock, sustained major injuries and remain hospitalized.
The CHP has not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
