According to City Manager Charles Lino, the derailment happened when the train collided with a tractor-trailer at a crossing near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street, causing the train to derail and crash into the Pecos Chamber of Commerce building.
Three train cars were carrying hazardous materials, but authorities confirmed there were no breaches. Investigators are focusing on two cars carrying lithium batteries, which have since been secured with no environmental threats reported.
