Cole Kelly Obituary St. Thomas High School: Further details released in double-fatality crash near River Oaks Elementary School
Cole Kelly of Houston, TX, has been identified as one of the individuals involved in a severe car accident in the Upper Kirby neighborhood near River Oaks Elementary School.
The crash took place in the 2100 block of Kirby Drive near San Felipe Street, close to the school, shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday. Reports indicate that a Lexus SUV, traveling at high speed northbound on Kirby, lost control, struck a curb, flipped over, and collided with a tree.
The vehicle carried three men in their 20s. Tragically, the driver and a rear-seat passenger died, while the front passenger survived. Paramedics had to cut into the vehicle to reach the victims.
The surviving passenger, who is currently hospitalized in stable condition, stated that the group was returning from a party where the driver had been drinking.
“They were definitely speeding down the road,” said Sgt. David Rose of the Houston Police Department. “This type of SUV and the way it launched from the curb wouldn’t have happened unless they were going significantly over the speed limit.”
Online sources suggest that one of the victims was Cole Kelly, a former student-athlete from Houston known for excelling in baseball and football. It remains unclear whether he was the driver, front passenger, or rear passenger at the time of the crash.
